Houston's population as of 2000 census is 1,992. The total
population for Texas County is 23,003.
CLIMATE:
As a southwestern community of Missouri, Texas County
enjoys the beauty of all four seasons. The average temperature of the
warmest month (July) is 80° to 85°F. The coolest month (January)
averages 20° to 25°F. The average rainfall is 41 inches with
an average snowfall of 15 inches.

HEALTH CARE
Texas County Memorial Hospital, the core of medical services
for Houston and the surrounding area, attracts the services of many
excellent physicians and surgeons.
A 66-bed facility offers complete surgical and obstetrical
facilities as well as an organized outpatient department. Hospital based
service includes 24-hour laboratory, diagnostic x-ray, nuclear medicine,
in-house CT scanner, ultrasound, mammography, ambulatory surgery and
physical therapy. Rounding out services are 24-hour respiratory therapy,
home health, Hospice, a 4-bed recovery room, cardiac rehabilitation,
specialty clinic, and FAA approved heliport and an 8-bed emergency room
with a 24-hour in-house physician coverage.
The emergency room at Texas County Memorial goes one
step further in emergency medicine as it provides ambulance service
to the county with four fully equipped advanced life support ambulances
which are dispatched from three ambulance bases.
Total medical staff members number 45. Two surgeons,
9-family physicians and 2 internal medicine specialists are supported
by consulting services in ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, orthopedics,
oncology, pathology, podiatry, gastroenterology, and radiology.

Houston House is a 96-bed skilled care
nursing facility, located in central Texas County. They offer superior
nursing care including physical, occupational, speech and respiratory
therapy. There is a well-rounded program of activities for their residents:
beauty/barber shop, music, Bible studies, regular church services, bingo
and active games, crafts, and quiet time for chats with friends and
family. They also have a handicap accessible van for weekly outings.
Their entire staff is trained to be sensitive to the
ever-changing mental, physical and emotional needs of each resident.
